Facebook

Dear friends,

Please take a few minutes to read this letter and to consider. In the past few years, I enjoyed listening to news about you on facebook, reading about you and sharing thus your life. facebook calls that "friendship". This is a wonderful way to keep in touch with each other over long distances.

Unfortunately, with its growth, facebook has not only become a dangerous data octopus:

  • Facebook threatens our democracy through illegal interference in our elections,
  • Promotes right-wing radicalism, racism and hatred by providing a forum for these brown fellows
  • sells personal information, etc. to dodgy customers, where the sale itself is bad enough,
  • makes a lot of money without paying taxes
  • Has a careless dealing with the security of the entrusted data.

Gradually, the time has come for me to put these disadvantages above my personal one, to hear from you time by time. Facebook has become a threat to our coexistence and perverts what we have so far understood by friendship. I have in mind the image of a pair of lovers in the Berlin subway embracing each other, while at the same time everyone is staring at his smartphone and daddling around in "social" networks. Unfortunately, George Orwell's fantasy was not enough to paint the vision of what is real today: the control of our data is total, and the "social" networks turn out to be entirely Neusprech. This represents a new form of exhibtionism in which I am to reveal my innermost self in order to receive control, manipulation and loneliness in return.

The long stories shortcut: I will delete my facebook account, even if I have to give up the low-level participation in your life. Things that really moved and sometimes even shook me, I did not publish on facebook for a long time anyway. There is still email remaining. As a reminder, my email address is frank.grellert@gmail.com (yes, I know, that's evil as well!). Even more, I would be happy to hear from you personally from time to time. If you feel like me, cancel your facebook account, there are other forms of contact we have to regain!

And last but not least: If you want to participate in my life on a low threshold, there is still my personal website, which is updated more or less regularly with photos of my recent encounters and experiences: https://fotoblog.57ps.de
